Do you provide an assessment for 11+?

I do, and it’s free. I’ll happily evaluate your child to assess their strengths and areas for growth and feedback to parents afterwards.

How do I know if my child is a viable 11+ candidate?

My assessment will show your child’s aptitude, but here are some general pointers.

​

Your child should;

 

• be a voracious reader

• be comfortable reading texts beyond their age

• have an inquiring mind

• be towards the top of the class in maths, with an excellent command of times tables

Which 11+ entrance exams do you offer tuition for?

I tutor for the CSSE examinations, the Consortium of Selective Schools in Essex. This is the feeder exam for the grammar schools in Chelmsford and Colchester, as well as schools in the Southend area. Please consult the CSSE website for full details regarding the full list of schools.

In addition, I also provide tuition for Chelmsford County High for Girls and London based grammar schools.

What is your success rate for the 11+?

For the first five years, my success rate never dipped below seventy five percent.

 

A number of parents then asked to have their younger children tutored, despite being less strong, since the opportunity would be beneficial regardless of the final outcome. Should any child wish to try for the 11+, with parental support in place, they should be allowed to do so.

 

Accelerating maths and English learning through tuition can only provide substantial benefits. While a place at grammar school may not ultimately be secured, the broad and thorough extra learning experience would indeed provide huge benefits to tutees’ future school performance.

 

With parents, I always maintain complete transparency as to likelihood of success.

Do you have a recommended 11+ reading list of book titles?

Which 11+ materials do you recommend?

I’m not sponsored by any companies, but I personally think that the Bond 11+ scheme is excellent, bettered only by the CGP. Both are readily available on Amazon.
